FOR LOVE, FOR FRIENDSHIP?

Image
A question often posed when a relationship seems to move to the next stage or is rather confusing and the two parties are not sure where they are as far as relationship is concerned. Most of the time, one of the parties is more attached to the other than the partner. This is what actually sets confusion in and this question has to be answered in one way or another. It is hard for a lady to tell which position she holds in the heart of her presumed man, until the supposed man proposes to her. By proposing, the lady is assured of spending the rest of her life with the man she loves. Before any man is ready to settle and be committed to one woman for all his life, there are things to deal with and make final decisions before embarking on such a life full of promises and commitments which come with love. These are things which put any relationship at bay, because such are the times a lot of advices are given and taken and these could either ruin or make a relationship. That is why it...

Image
(I found this story in my archives and i thought i should share Naomi's story with you.) Introduction Naomi Mutua doesn’t click you as prominent, but that shows how far Wangari Maathai went in the hearts of many to plant the love for trees. She is a regular woman who works hard like any other Kenyan to earn a living. She happens to be the face behind ‘The Karura Forest Tree Planting’ that took place on the 1 st of October, 2011. “Following the demise of Wangari Maathai, I thought it only sensible to get people to plant trees, and I thought that if we could do this together, even better.” She writes in her ‘akenyangirl.wordpress.com’ website. She was self-motivated and brought together many willing organizations like Resolution Health who pledged 50,000 shillings into the project. She also worked hand in hand with Safaricom and PesaPal for the donation process into the specific accounts. She chose Karura Forest for logical reasons and was working towards raising 280,000 s...

THE MEDIA STRIKING A BALANCE

Image
The media’s focus on its main functions and the challenges from the commercial interest and promotion of media freedom. Commercial Interest                  A commercial interest here means the interest the media currently has on making profits more than its major purpose on educating, informing and entertaining the public. It appears that the media today is interested more on how it will appear on the public’s ratings, and how many advertisers will come to them in accordance with the high ratings, viewership, listenership or readership.                “The entry of commercial interests in the media has affected the sobriety, the maturity, the sense of duty and responsibility, the idealism and the missionary, spirit and zeal which were the mainstay of the media in the past” this is according to the Press Council of India Chairman J...

THREE MAJOR CHALLENGES IN KENYA

Image
Introduction Kenya, like any other country has her own challenges that pull back her strategies toward success. Kenyans suffer a lot due to the lack of knowledge about their rights. It is quite unfortunate how the Kenyan leaders use the ignorance of the people to their advantage and abuse the citizens though they make it look like they are helping them. Currently, Kenya is facing economic and political hardships which go far deep in affecting the normal functioning of the other sectors of the country. Economy is what makes or breaks a country, in our state we have a failed if mot a falling one. That then means unhappy and dissatisfied people who will stop at nothing until they grab all they can illegally. That in the end leads to greed and corruption, everyone using the shortest way possible to get to the top, wrong means towards wrong ends. The worst thing is, many helpless people are hurt and left to suffer, they are forgotten. Background Kenya having attained her independe...

AFRICA SHOULD UNITE AS ONE NATION

Image
The idea of Africa uniting is a surprisingly old proposal, with adherents dating back to 1920’s.Though the idea of a united Africa is one that began long ago but has especially grown recently as the world slowly sinks from crisis after crisis. It will be the best thing that will have ever happened to Africa as it will bring with it a lot of advantages and even give Africa the power to stand tall.                The first advantage of Africa uniting is perceived to be a much stronger voice on the international. Africa is currently the second biggest continent, a home of 53 sovereign states each with its own heritage, cultures, customs and history. This means that African states can be played against each other fairly well. If united, it would give Africa a much stronger voice. A country with approximately 1 billion people would after all be fairly strong on the International stage and would be more popular than Indi...

My Volunteer Experience at Future Hope and Baby Center (September- December 2011)

Image
Background Future Hope and Baby Centre was started on February 5th, 2006. Jane, the Director of the home, liked to visit Children's Garden, an orphanage within the District where she worked as a teacher. The director of the home was a friend who was struggling to raise abandoned children. On the material day, an officer visited the orphanage to seek help with two abandoned children in need of shelter. Jane accompanied the director to the nearby slum where the little girls were left alone. The younger baby 1 1/2 years old was too young for the orphanage. They took the 4 year old girl. Jane was saddened by the fact that the younger baby was remaining alone in the one roomed house without any relative to take care of her.  After much discussion, Jane offered to take care of Hope, as the baby was later called, on behalf of the orphanage and until the mother was found. She never turned up. The children's officer visited Jane and her family and was happy with the way Ho...

KIDS ARE A BLESSING

Image
Children are a blessing. They come from God as gifts, and are given to us to love and to care. After all, we were all once children and we were appreciated, taken care of and celebrated. The best thing is to give back. It is important to remember we were the ones who brought them into this world.                       Children are what we make them. A child is innocent of many things that happen around him and what you tell them or teach them is what they will always know. We are responsible of what our kids take as values and vices. We are supposed to teach them manners and not scold them for what we have not instilled in them.                      Like everybody else a child grows and goes to ...
