AFRICA SHOULD UNITE AS ONE NATION
The idea of Africa uniting is a surprisingly old proposal, with adherents dating back to 1920’s.Though the idea of a united Africa is one that began long ago but has especially grown recently as the world slowly sinks from crisis after crisis. It will be the best thing that will have ever happened to Africa as it will bring with it a lot of advantages and even give Africa the power to stand tall. The first advantage of Africa uniting is perceived to be a much stronger voice on the international. Africa is currently the second biggest continent, a home of 53 sovereign states each with its own heritage, cultures, customs and history. This means that African states can be played against each other fairly well. If united, it would give Africa a much stronger voice. A country with approximately 1 billion people would after all be fairly strong on the International stage and would be more popular than India and China. Unity would also lead to a greatly enhanced free flow of information. Africa undoubtedly has some of the greatest and most brilliant brains on the planet. People like Wangari Mathai and Nelson Mandela have demonstrated that numerous African ideas are world –caliber. If united it means that ideas can be shared .This free flow of ideas can be seen as incredibly advantageous to the continent. If Africa united resources will be better utilized and will greatly allow for the use of pan-African industry. For example Kenya has a lot of industries but a lot of minerals. If Kenya had access to Congo’s minerals then there would surely be economic growth as both countries would benefit. The same can happen in all the African countries and much will be expected from such a step. This would also dramatically reduce Africa’s need for aid. Being reputed one of the countries in the world, Africa is largely dependent on other continents with better developed states to assist in aid. This has resulted in to a new form of colonialism upon African states. This can be resolved by becoming united and transporting what is in one state to the other where it lacks. This is the only way to erase dependence on the west. “We must unite for economic viability, first of all, and then recover our mineral wealth in southern Africa, so that our vast resources and capacity for development will bring prosperity for us and additional benefits for the rest of the world. “ Kwame Nkurumah’s speech at OAU summit conference, Cairo, can also be found on pages 282-4 of Revolutionary Path. This is a proof of how much some of our leaders are willing to unite Africa. All the conflicts concerning the borders will be history only with a united Africa. It has been proven before by the unification of European states and therefore we would be wise to borrow a leaf. Currently Africa has a lot of conflicts over borders. In a recent case of Migingo between Kenya and Uganda. If Africa unites, it would immediately remove need for such conflicts. This move will also end conflicts between Ethiopia and Eritrea. Such is only possible by making Africa one nation.
i beg to differ because the different states we have already cannot or are innapropriately equiped to handle their own affairs. Merging them into one will mean more problem with countries who are already considering thrmselves as 2nd class countries. whats your take on this issue?
ReplyDeleteHI,
ReplyDeleteBefore i leave any comment i would like to appreciate your feedback.
I believe it is possible in the next 100 or 200 years to have Africa as one nation. East Africa is already working on it, if differnt parts of Africa combine, then it will be a couple of years before my proposal among other African people who share the same idea, have this dream kiss the winds of reality.
I really believe this way our economies will be stronger, stable and we shall not rely on any aid, from any developed countries as i believe we shall be part of that or even more if we put our energies together.
Africa is very rich; culture, traditions, dialects, people and norms, put together we stand as one amazing nation, including the richness of our lands.
Thank You for your comment it really does count.
