Mental Health 101: Five things to do to boost your mental health
Well, I've been feeling overwhelmed, underwhelmed, and just unbalanced over a couple of months but mostly these past week. All the reasons why I feel the way I feel point to one thing- mental exhaustion. I am brain fatigued from all the over thinking, mini panic attacks and just overall worry about the future.
I like being in charge of everything that happens to me, so this need for control and perfection doesn't help people pleasing attributes and gets a bunch of me. This doesn't get better with the kind of work environment I have, which is mentally draining but my love for my job keeps pushing me to be and do better. I must confess I am a workaholic, it would make sense with a friendly work environment but being in charge of putting out fores comes with some mental strain.
So, I know I am not alone. I knows st of us are going through these phases silently, lonely, and desperately. So, here's some tips to help you get through and achieve a balance in your mental health. I'll try practice what I preach based on this read.
When it comes to our mental health, we all have to take care of it. Mental health is just as important as physical health. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, approximately one in five people will experience a mental health disorder in their lifetime. That’s one in five people! Even if you don’t have a mental health condition yourself, you can still help take care of someone who does.
Here are five things you can do to take care of your mental health:
1. Talk to someone. Talking about your feelings is the best way to deal with them. Talking to a family member, friend, therapist, or counselor can be helpful.
2. Get enough sleep. It’s important to get enough sleep every night. According to the National Sleep Foundation, most people need between seven and nine hours of sleep per night. If you’re not getting enough sleep, you might feel tired, have trouble focusing, and make mistakes at work or school.
3. Take care of your physical health. Eating healthy, getting exercise, and avoiding junk food are all important for your physical health. They’re also important for your mental health. If you’re stressed, you might not eat well or exercise. And if you’re not eating well or exercising, you might have trouble sleeping or concentrating.
